Translate Your Product Finder to Another Language

Introductions

Once you've created a new localization of your Product Finder that uses a different language, you'll need to translate its Q&A Content.

From this article you will learn:

 TIP

You can also create another wording in the same language (e.g. British English and US English)

1 Types of Q&A Content

The Q&A content includes all the text content used to build your conversation with the customer, which includes:

2 Bulk Translation

 TIP

If the Product Finder is relatively small, you can skip bulk translation and translate the whole Product Finder element by element from the UI.

You can translate the whole Q&A Content in the three steps:

1. Click the download Q&A content button by the default localization row. A .properties file will be downloaded to your computer.

2. Open the file in a text editor and translate the texts.

3. Click the upload Q&A content button below the new localization.

The .properties file contains all the text elements of your Product Finder. The label of the elements is provided on the left, and its value is on the right. To translate an element, you need to change the text on the right.

4. Drag the updated .properties file to the emerged window or click the browse link, and select the file.

 5. The Data preview will appear. It will contain the first five items of the Question and Answer flow (in the example, it's a question and four answers).

At this step, you can check if the translation is displayed correctly and, if needed, change Encoding.  The default and recommended character encoding is UTF-8, which covers all characters in all languages. However, if your data file relies on another encoding system, Product Finder 360 provides you with 4 other popular options:

  • ISO-8859-1: Contains Latin characters and is sometimes used for Western European languages

  • Windows-1250: Used for Central and Eastern European languages

  • Windows-1251: Designed for languages based on the Cyrillic script

  • Windows-1252: Used by Microsoft Windows for English and other Western European languages

3. Access and View Q&A Content Translations by Types

You can get to element-by-element translation, as soon as you have created the localization, however, unless your Product Finder is really short, it's better to start with a bulk translation. The translatable texts can be viewed and edited in the three spots:

3.1 Access and View Translated Questions and Answers & Their Descriptions

Open the Product Finder Editor and switch to the localization.

You will see the translated Product Finder on the Canvas.

If the text has been changed manually from the UI, the orange icon will have a human shape in its lower right part.

If the translation is missing or is the same as in the default content, it will be marked with a red icon. (For example, if you decide to skip the bulk translate, all question in the flow will be marked red)

 GOOD TO KNOW

Sometimes, the default and translated texts can be fully matching (e.g. size in cm for English and German translations). If this is the case you can ignore the red icon and proceed further.

The same is true for translations of the descriptions added to questions and answers. (An example of a manually edited description text is provided on the right)

3.1.1 Access Question and Answer Translations to Edit Them

In order to change any of the translated questions, answers or

1. Switch to the localization

2. Click the question on the Canvas or in the Question Bank.

You will see the translation of the question and its answers in the Question Bank.

Now you can edit them.

3.1.2 Access Description Translations to Edit Them

To access a question or answer description, click the description icon on the right from the question translation.

The description window will emerge.

Now you can edit it.

3.2 Access and View Translated Product Attributes

The Assitant/Design/Product Attributes setting, in particular, define the texts displayed on product tiles for recommendations and alternative products and comparison. These texts can also be auto-translated by Product Finder 360's Translator Power-Up or from the .properties file as described above.

To see the translations:

1.Switch to the localization

2. Go to Design/Product Attributes

You can see translations for the captions, units, positive, negative, and lacking (if unknown) properties:

  • Once translated they will be displayed with an orange icon with a human shape on the right.

  • If they are not translated or if the translation fully matches the text in the default Product Finder, the will be marked with an orange icon.

From here you can edit the translations.

3.3 Access and View Translated Standart Texts

Standard Texts (defined in the Desing/Appearance section) are the text content of your Product Finder that doesn't depend on a specific question (e.g. text on the buttons, explanations for different question types, headers of the recommendations, et.c)

To see the translations:

1. Switch to the localization

2. Go to the Desing/Appearance/Standard texts section and click the "Edit Standard Texts" button

You will see translations of the standard texts below their descriptions in English:

  • Once translated they will be displayed with an orange icon with a human shape on the right.

  • If they are not translated or if the translation fully matches the text in the default Product Finder, the will be marked with an orange icon.

From here you can edit the translations.

4. Edit Content Translation From the UI

Once you've accessed the translated questions and answers or their descriptions, product attribute captions, or standard texts, you can edit them. The process is similar for all of the content types, and the examples are provided for a question and answer translation.

4.1 Edit the Wording

To edit the wording click the text and type in the new text (as in a usual Product Finder)

4.2 Revert to Default

You can revert any translated (localized) text to the text that is currently used in the default localization.

To do so:

  • Hover over the translation icon and click the "Revert to default" link. The text will be immediately replaced with the one available in the default localization of this Product Finder.

  REMEMBER

Once you've published and integrated the localized Product Finder version, it will be available to your customers. Any pieces of translation that are missing will be displayed as in the default localization.

5. Download and Edit Translated Content File

Once the Q&A Content has been translated, you can download it for further bulk translation. This might be a case, for example, if you want to use external translation services or have decided to change some wording in many places (e.g. replace the German word "Wickelkind" with "Säugling" (both words mean "infant").

To edit the translated content file:

1. Go to the Settings tab in the page header.

2. Click the "Manage localizations" section.

3. Maximize the localization that you want to edit.

4. Download the translated .properties file (1). Edit it in a text editor (2). Upload the edited file to the localization(3).

Next Steps

Usually Product Finder in another language will also require a localized product catalog, with other prices and some translated items, therefore, now you would need to create and upload the localized product catalog.

After this is done, don't forget to return to the question flow and check that mapping hasn't been broken and the localized product details are correctly displayed in the recommendation pages.

When ready, you can integrate the localized Product Finder to your website.
